Karen grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and has lived in Nebraska and New Mexico, but she has called Butte her home for over 30 years. An avid hiker, trail runner and cross-country she finds inspiration in the beauty of nature as she pursues her outdoor adventures.
Favorite themes in her work include wildflowers, light and color in landscapes, seasons, cycles, passing of time and history. Whether painting in watercolor, acrylic, pastel or mixed media and encaustic collage, she uses layers of paint and materials to explore and build her pieces. While being mindful of composition, balance and design she lets her imagination and intuition be her guide.
